We now have Sydney, named after the daughter of Carrie who traveled a couple of hours to Battle Creek, MI to rescue this poor baby from almost certain death. She arrived at our Sanctuary at approx. 6:00pm last night and was thoroughly checked out. She is extremely boney with a very pronounced keel, weighing a mere 4.85lbs We put her on a high protein pellet diet, which she took to immediately, and isolated her in a warm and cozy room in hopes that she will start to destress. She will be monitored often and taken to the vet the beginning of the week for an internal evaluation and antibiotics, if necessary, to fight off any potential parasites. She is currently receiving Terramycin for an irritation in her left eye. She is definitely extremely stressed out, but shows no sign of lice. She is the most undernourished duck that we have ever encountered, but we will definitely ‘fatten’ her up as quickly as possible. As you can see, she has extensive feather loss throughout her entire body, especially her head and face area. We have never seen such a condition, but we will learn as quickly as possible to ensure her immediate return to good health! You can follow her progress on our FB page as well! We believe that she may be a girl, as she sounds like one, but she has the curled tail of a male. Our duck ‘Ducky” is no doubt a girl, but she definitely has a curl on her tail. Prayers are always welcomed. The last picture shows what a full belly of protein and a good nights rest can do to a very stressed duck. Anyone interested in donating even a dollar toward her upcoming vet expense and expected medication costs, can easily do so by simply visiting our Donate Tab above. Thank you so much!
